Here's Nancy Donlon's comments on our last meeting. Thanks to Nancy for leading and to Kathy Wilkinson for the snacks.
"There were five of us who joined together today to discuss The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger, and we had a fun and lengthy
discussion. Most of us enjoyed this sci-fi love story, although we all agreed that it was "weird", and at times a little disturbing. Kathy
Wilkinson provided the snacks.
Angie Murphy had several suggestions for the next book, and we decided on Wide Sargasso Sea by Jean Rhys. It is a "prequel" to Jane Eyre.
It was also made into a movie in 1993. The next scheduled meeting is on March 16 at the Green Hills Library."
I hated to miss the meeting, but did enjoy my trip to see my mom.
I agree that the book was weird and disturbing, but intriguing. I was a little disappointed by the ending. I thought Clare would have followed Henry's request to live in the present, but instead she pined away for him. I also wondered about the daughter....how did her life go, did the Dr. treat her, how often did she see her dad as she grew up? Maybe a sequal is in the works?
I look forward to our next meeting.

Farewell Shona!
On Sunday, Jan 6th we bid Shona farewell. She is moving back to Scotland next month. Shona chose our first read, Scenes from a Sistah and those of us who have read it will never forget it! Thanks Shona for getting this club off to a great start! We will miss you and hope you will stay in touch via this blog.
Susan Coonce and Angie Murphy fed us well on Sunday, giving us energy for the discussion of Christ the Lord: Out of Egypt by Anne Rice. All agreed it was a fascinating story, with lots to think about. FYI, the next book in the series comes out this spring. Those members who read the book but couldn't make the meeting, please post your comments, thoughts etc. here! That's what this blog is for.
Our next book is The Time Travelers Wife by Audrey Niffenegger ( I have no idea how to pronounce this!). Nancy Donlon will lead and Kathy Wilkinson will provide snacks. Remember to bring your own beverage. We will meet on Sunday Feb 10th, which is just 5 weeks between meetings. We bumped up the meeting because Shona will be the guest of honor at a "leaving" party given by one of her friends on our original date of Feb 17th, and has graciously invited us to attend. Plus the Vanderbilt Community Chorus Valentine Concert is on Sunday Feb 17th at 4:00 PM and you are all invited to that as well. More information on both these events to follow.

Sunday's Meeting
We had a small but dedicated group to discuss Eat, Pray Love on Sunday, Nov. 11. Angie Murphy led and did her homework. Since it was just 3 of us, Mary Hausman, me and Angie, we got through all the discussion questions and did them justice. We even began talking about our next book!
Since there were so few of us there I hope our members who read the book will chime in on this blog with some comments on the book. Let's keep this discussion going here in cyberspace. I for one am anxious to hear what the rest of our members thought about this very different book club choice.
Our next meeting is Jan 6th, 2008. It will be in the GH library from 2-4. Our selection is Anne Rice's Christ the Lord. I will lead the discussion and we'll need a snack volunteer so please let me know if you are willing.
Hope all are well and I look forward to some comments on Eat, Pray, Love.

Sunday, September 30. The Education of Little Tree
Hello everyone. I thought I'd start the post for tomorrow's meeting in case anyone who can't make it would like to comment on the book ahead of time. I'll check the blog for new comments and bring them to tomorrow's meeting. That way you'll be participating, even if it is via cyberspace. :)
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's discussion!

Sunday, Ap 19th's discussion of Speaks the Nightbird by Robert McCammon
Welcome to the Millennium Bood Club Blog. I hope this online venture will serve as a means to extend our discussions beyond the Sunday afternoon meetings and provide a way for those members who can't be present on meeting days to participate in and benefit from the group.
The August 19th meeting was small, but definitely boisterous, from the reports I heard from a few who were present. Apparently the book evoked spirited discussion! Some loved the book, others didn't care for it at all. But this is what makes for good discussion. It was pointed out that the author didn't do his homework on some aspects of history, having the characters use matches when they were not yet invented. Some members felt that the attitudes and situations were somewhat liberal for the times and that several situations were a bit far fetched. The comment was made that our first read by this author, A Boy's Life, was much better. Angie brought a beautiful strawberry trifle for the snack....another reason to be sad to have missed the meeting!
The "floor" is still open and we'd love to hear from those who read the book but couldn't make it to the meeting. Your comments will be much anticipated and appreciated!
As a reminder, our next meeting will be on Sunday, Sept 30th. The Green Hills Library is not available that day so I'll make arrangements for a meeting place and let you know soon. Our Sept read is The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter.
Hope to read your comments soon!
